Tomé Hill

Tomé Hill rises abruptly at the green edge of the Rio Grande Valley south of Los Lunas, New Mexico. The fertile river bottom supported a large Pueblo farming population which produced the rock art found on the hill, most of which dates back to the culture's highpoint between the 14th and 17th Centuries. The hill is the dominant feature of the landscape for many miles, and it does not seem surprising that it would become the center of the community's spiritual life. Most of the petroglyphs are located on strands of basalt boulders low down on the hill's east and west ends.
