Mir

The Mir ("Peace or World" in Russian) was a lower cost version of the Zorki 4, primarily for domestic consumption. Standard lens was the rigid Industar 50, collapsible I-22 or the Jupiter 8. Costs were reduced by eliminating the slow speed shutter mechanism. Some claim at least some Mirs have the 1/1000 shutter speed, but it isn't shown on the dial. The Mir is allegedly one of the most reliable Soviet cameras because it isn't complicated by the slow speed shutter train. An early Mir cameras had the frame around the viewfinder and rangefinder windows - like the early Zorki 4s and were covered with vulcanite [2].

PM2105. Very uncommon version with initial type of engravings. The decorative rim around the finder like on an early Zorki-4.  

An earliest so far known camera has s/n #5924649 (eBay, 2011), the latest so far known camera belongs to Yuriy Davidenko #5928690. Camera opposite from Ilya Stolyar (USA) coll.  

Serial numbers range:#5924000-#5928800.

Quantity: appr. 4000 units according to serial numbers, but many numbers are mixed with type PM2110 camera, so this type is very uncommon to find nowadays.

PM2110. An early version with rim around the finder like on the early Zorki-4. My camera  #5941467 has 1/1000s, although it's not mentioned on the shutter disk, only black dot. Without stop bolt on an accessory shoe.

Serial numbers range:  #5928800-#5947000 [1]. Quantity: appr. 20.000 units.

PM2115. Camera identical to PM2110, but with stop bolt on an accessory shoe. 

Serial numbers range: #5940000-#5957000. Quantity: appr. 4000-4500 units. Investigated camera has s/n #5952346 (SovietCams). 

 

PM2110 - Mir  #5941467.

 

PM2120. No more decorative rim around the finder (see the picture below).  Quite common to find nowadays. I have calculated, that appr. 60000 cameras were released in 1959 and appr. 77000 in 1960, total amount appr. 135000 units.
